Job Description


SLR has a busy multidisciplinary office in the Heavitree area of Exeter, which houses a diverse range of Environmental consultants working in areas such as hydrology, archaeology, air quality, acoustics, planning and Ecology We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Administrator providing a range of word processing, report preparation and secretarial and administration support to our team.

Main Duties:

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assistance in collating information for bid preparation.

  • Keeping employee profiles and CVs up to date.

  • Typing/formatting/composing letters, emails, spreadsheets

  • Check incoming post and emails, dealing with any matters requiring attention with the help of appropriate professional staff if required.

  • Arranging meetings, hotel and travel bookings, hire cars, and purchase orders as required.

  • Issue of reports, documents and bids, including organisation of collation, printing and couriers as appropriate.

  • Filing/Photocopying/scanning of documents, report binding.

  • Provide back up in terms of preparing fee invoices and typing covering letters.

  • providing reception cover:
    -           answering the door and dealing with deliveries;
    -           greeting visitors, organising meetings (including conference room booking), and offering refreshments/hospitality
    -          Answering phones – including knowledgeable handling of incoming enquiries

  • Assisting Office Manager with housekeeping duties, ie quotations for maintenance works, correspondence with landlord, relating cleaning issues to supervisor, obtaining information

  • General office tidiness in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

  • Responsible for the archiving of all project related work and retrieving where and when necessary.

  • Working as part of a small team, the successful candidate may also be required to undertake other reasonable duties not described above as required in support of the office manager/team


Person Specification

Technical Skills, Abilities, Experience:


  • Demonstrable experience of providing administrative support to a team of professionals

  • Experience of using Microsoft Office suite including Word

  • Professional Telephone Manner


  • Ability to use Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar pdf stitching software

  • Basic graphic design skills – cropping, resizing etc.

  • Some level of understanding of environmental consultancy
