Principal Consultant/Technical Director - Environmental Management, Permitting and Compliance, UK

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week 9.00am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday

SLR Consulting have an established office which is located in western Edinburgh. At present the office accommodates a number of technical disciplines including Hydrology and Hydrogeology, Civil and Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Process Engineering and Process Safety, Waste and Resources Management, ESIA, Noise and Vibration, and Land Quality.
Our Environmental Management, Permitting and Compliance team work with clients across a diverse range of sectors, providing support with permit applications and associated regulatory assistance, compliance monitoring, management system development and implementation and a host of associated services.
As part of expansion plans for our Environmental Management, Permitting and Compliance team throughout the UK, we are looking to make a strategic appointment of an individual to work with existing clients as well as deliver project work for the team, ideally within Edinburgh but Glasgow and Stirling would also be considered.
The successful individual would join as part of the wider UK team, but with responsibility for building on existing client relationships in the region and re-establishing a presence for the team in Scotland, winning and delivering new projects and growing a team around themselves as they do so.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful individual will have a key responsibility for winning/developing new business within Environmental Permitting (industrial, waste, minerals or other associated fields), Environmental Management and Compliance; as well as playing a lead role in the delivery of these projects.
This role presents a fantastic opportunity to develop a new geographical presence for an expanding discipline team within an established consultancy; with support from an extensive and diverse range of technical expertise throughout the group.
The successful individual will also have responsibility for expanding the team within Scotland around themselves as workloads increase.
Given that all of our discipline teams work UK-wide as a single team, this will also involve management of other staff within the EMPC team - and other disciplines - throughout our office network brought in as part of project delivery.
TECHNICAL SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE :
- A consultancy or regulatory background, with demonstrable commercial experience as well as good technical knowledge.
- Report writing skills and attention to detail are required to be of a high standard.
- Ability to manage and mentor staff effectively.
- Track record in developing a new business area.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION / MEMBERSHIP :
- Relevant first degree and preferably a masters degree
- Related post-graduate qualification
- Membership/Chartered Status with a relevant professional body/institute
