SLR Consulting has an established Environmental Management, Permitting and Compliance team, which supports our clients in all areas of environmental management, including: developing and maintaining integrated and discipline-specific management systems for environment, health & safety and energy; securing waste and environmental permits; delivering corporate responsibility services, in strategic sustainability issues and corporate reporting; and helping our clients conform to all environmental compliance obligations. We have proven expertise and experience in working with private and public organisations across a variety of sectors, including industry, oil & gas, mining & minerals, infrastructure, power and the built environment.
SLR is looking to appoint a Health and Safety specialist to join its EMP&C team to provide focus on the growth and development of SLR’s capabilities and activities within the H&S sector, from both a technical and commercial perspective; working alongside the existing team to identify and grow opportunities within current clients, as well as using their own contacts and market knowledge to expand commercial opportunities and build a project workload. As the workload increases, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand the H&S team to ensure delivery to clients.
SLR has offices throughout the UK, and EMPC has staff in Newcastle, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, Bradford-on-Avon and Guildford. EMPC works closely with our colleagues across SLR’s technical disciplines, including Process Engineering and Process Safety, ESIA, Planning, Air Quality, Waste and Resources Management and many others.
The successful individual would join as part of the EMPC team, with responsibility for building a successful H&S consultancy business stream, collaborating with staff from other disciplines to deliver projects and working with sector leaders to identify and develop business opportunities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will have a fantastic opportunity to develop a new service offering within an established consultancy, which would have synergies with other disciplines, including EMPC and with support from an extensive and diverse range of technical expertise throughout the group.
The position has a key responsibility for winning/developing new business within the health & safety field, focusing on EMPC’s key client sectors of industry, waste management and oil & gas, but experience related to others, including any of infrastructure, mining & minerals, power and the built environment would be welcomed. The successful individual should have experience of H&S compliance services within industry, and preferably also oil & gas, including developing safe systems of work, H&S management systems, H&S training at all levels and regulator liaison. A track record including HAZOP and COMAH would be beneficial.
The successful individual will also have responsibility for expanding the team around themselves as workloads increase, by recruiting and developing staff.
TECHNICAL SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE :
- A consultancy or regulatory background, with demonstrable commercial and sectoral experience, as well as good technical knowledge.
- Report writing skills and attention to detail are required to be of a high standard.
- Ability to manage and mentor staff effectively.
- Track record in developing a new business area.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION / MEMBERSHIP :
- Relevant first degree and preferably a masters degree
- Chartered member of IOSH
- Other membership/chartered status with a relevant professional body/institute
