Job Description

SYNOPSIS:

SLR has a large and successful planning and EIA team that works across all business areas, throughout the UK and with the international business.

We are looking for a Principal EIA Coordinator to join our busy teams in either Leeds or Newcastle.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including an existing major Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) in the power sector. This project is one of the largest infrastructure developments in recent years and presents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to play a key role in its progression through the consenting process. As well as supporting ongoing projects, the role involves business development and the co-ordination and delivery of proposals for large multi-disciplinary projects.  Experience in the power and infrastructure sectors is essential.  The successful candidate will report to the Technical Director for EIA and the Sector Leaders for Power and Infrastructure.    

The successful candidate should hold a relevant Planning or Environmental related degree, along with a sound knowledge of the planning system and the EIA process. Knowledge of the consenting process set out in the Planning Act 2008 is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate track record of navigating complex consenting processes, managing multi-disciplinary projects and producing high quality and robust Environmental Statements.

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. It will be essential that the successful candidate works well in a team and is able to manage a team of internal and external consultants when required. The ability to work to deadlines and budgets and manage programmes is essential. EIA experience of complex projects, preferably in the electricity sector, is highly desirable as is client facing experience.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within an experienced team and be involved in a series of exciting challenges with one of the leading environmental consultancies in the UK. The successful candidate should have a full driving licence, with access to a car.

 

Person Specification

TECHNICAL SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE :

Essential:

  • Good practical knowledge of the English and Welsh Planning System and EIA Regulations
  • Good practical knowledge of the EIA Regulations
  • Knowledge of the consenting process set out in the Planning Act 2008#
  • Good computer skills inc Microsoft Word, Excel and Project 

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATION / MEMBERSHIP :

Essential:

  • Planning or EIA related degree

Desirable:

  • Master Degree

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES :

  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and if necessary to manage a team of internal or external consultants
  • The ability to deliver projects within deadline and budget constraints
     

OTHER:

Essential:

  • Full driving license

Desirable:

  • Able to undertaken short term travel within the UK
