Job Description

This is an opportunity to join our Finance team in Fourways, Johannesburg. The successful
candidate will be required to provide support to the African Region Financial
Director. Typical duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Producing accurate, reliable monthly management accounts (including variance analysis and financial statements) for the group’s Africa Region on a timely basis in accordance with the reporting timetable;

  • Assisting with the preparation of the consolidated financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement and Notes) for Africa region on monthly/yearly basis;

  • Analysing (including automated checks in Excel) and making necessary adjustments to the Africa Region companies’ Financial Statements and Management Accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness;

  • Preparing, Reconciling and Analysing relevant schedules supporting both the Management Accounts and Financial Statements for the Africa Region;

  • Preparing variance analysis on Business and Finance KPI’s for the Africa Region companies including comparison with budgets/forecasts including Excel graphs/charts/tables;

  • Maintaining quality within the Excel templates to ensure consistency/standardisation in reporting process;

  • Liaising with accounting team to obtaining/providing necessary inputs for the Analysis, Financial Statements, Management Accounts and other reporting requirements;

  • Assist with management of the accounts team;

  • Maintaining and preserving complete audit trail of all the reports prepared;

  • Developing and maintaining a strong working knowledge of the Deltek Vision accounting system;

  • Generating relevant reports from the Deltek accounting software for Africa Region companies for various reporting purposes;

  • Assisting in Forecasting/Budgeting/Planning process;

  • Assisting with the year-end Audit and Consolidation process within the Africa Region;

  • Project-based troubleshooting to operating locations to ensure that standardised accounting systems, controls and procedures are introduced and maintained as the Africa Region grows;

  • Detailed involvement in a number of daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks;

  • Month end closure routines, including checking that all journal entries have been posted, running draft income statements, checking overheads and cross-checking utilisation information back to weekly utilisation reports;

  • Providing summary management accounts information to regional management team for reporting purposes;

  • Maintaining an actual to budget variance analysis for all Africa Region management team budgets;

  • Assisting in other functions as may be required.

 


 

Person Specification


  • The role requires the candidate to have successfully completed studying and should have a degree (as a minimum) in Accounting and/or professional Accounting qualification with a minimum of 5 years similar management and group company experience.
  • 5 years hands on management experience on the specific duties in a similar role/professional qualification with less than 5 years management experience.
  • Basic understanding and hands on experience of preparation and analysis of multi-currency Financial Statements including Cash Flow Statement
  • Advanced level of MS-Excel, Excel 2010/13
  • Advanced level of MS-Work, Word 2010/13
  • Advanced level of MS-Outlook, Outlook 2010/13
  • Ability to independently prepare the monthly reporting packs of group companies   
  • Willingness and ability to manage basic checks and balances for accuracy of information
  • Working knowledge of IFRS for SME (In RSA and NAM)
  • Working knowledge of VAT (In RSA and NAM)
  • Ability to quickly develop relevant skills essential for effectively carrying out assigned duties
  • Hands on experience in dealing with Consolidation and Statutory Reporting
  • Ability to apply the knowledge to identify and deal with the accounting standard differences
  • Awareness of the commonly used global accounting terms and best practices.
