Job Description


Due to continued commercial success and a very busy project workload, we currently have an opportunity for a senior consultant to join our Environmental Management, Permitting and Compliance (EMPC) Team on a full time basis within our Newcastle office.


The position will include the management of environmental permitting and compliance projects for all types of waste facilities and installations including landfill, energy from waste facilities, metal recycling and end of life vehicles, waste treatment, recycling and transfer sites, primarily in the NE of England and Scotland. In addition, there will be opportunities to work in other industrial sectors, and in locations across the UK.

This is a client-facing role, focussing on the preparation of Environmental Permit and variation applications, and associated compliance work. It can include undertaking or managing other permitting application tasks such as risk assessments, fire prevention plans, site condition reports, application forms, OPRA spreadsheets etc., and report writing for all types of waste facilities and other installations. There will also be opportunities to undertake compliance audits, and to work on environmental management systems (and potentially also on quality, H&S and integrated management systems).

The individual will be required to liaise with the Environment Agency and other regulatory bodies as necessary, and also to co-ordinate work from other SLR technical teams.

This is a key role, which will include supporting the Principal Consultant responsible for the EMPC team in the NE region in growing workloads with existing clients, and developing an external client base and workload.


Person Specification



  • A regulatory or consultancy background, with demonstrable commercial experience as well as good technical knowledge.
  • Report writing skills and attention to detail are required to be of a high standard



  • A relevant first degree


  • A relevant Masters degree
  • Membership/Chartered Status with a relevant professional body/institute


Must be able to work to deadlines and budgets, manage own workload as well as having good project managing skills to work within a team. Must be:
• Reliable
• Self-motivating
• Flexible but accurate worker
• Good communication & presentation skills 


Ability to travel, driving licence
