Case Study

Plastics to Crude Oil (US)

SLR’s Process Engineering Group were retained by a UK investment vehicle who were considering an investment into a Plastics-to-Crude Oil project at multiple  sites in the United States and based on a recognised pyrolysis technology and associated feed preparation equipment.

The  pyrolysis process has been tried and tested for the production of a synthetic crude oil product equivalent to a West Texas Intermediate sweet crude, which is accepted by oil processing facilities.

Location:

USA - Various

Client:

Confidential

Project Objectives:

To provide potential investors with a technical due diligence report upon the viability of the pyrolysis and associated technology as part of a new waste management development, being rolled out at up to four initial processing sites across the USA.  SLR also reviewed and advised on potential plastic recovery from residual municipal waste streams and the technologies and processes likely to be required to meet the requirements of the pyrolysis technology.

Our Role

  • Witnessing operations – including test facility operation and feedstock preparation facilities
  • Engineering Support – SLR took part in several engineering meetings and provided comments and recommendations for modifications and additional plant scope. SLR continues to provide ongoing support on a periodic basis
  • Due Diligence Report – preparation and submission of a detailed report on the process, test operations and potential MSW preparatory processing schemes
