Zinc-Lead Mine Exploration (IRE)

The SLR team was tasked with implementing an exploration programme to see if zinc-lead-silver deposits were present at the site. This resulted in the largest discovery of Irish Ore in a generation.

Project Objectives:

Our main objective was to implement an exploration programme that resulted in the discovery of the Lisheen zinc-lead-silver deposit (22.2Mt @ 11.5% Zn, 2% Pb, 26 g/t Ag) the largest discovery in the Irish ore field for several years.

Our Role

  • Geological mapping, geochemical and basinal studies
  • Geophysical surveys: IP, VLF, TEM, ground magnetics, gravity, airborne magnetics and interpretation

Once the Lisheen Zn-PB deposit had been confirmed, the SLR team provided further specialist services: Ore reserve drilling, environmental baseline data, topographic surveying, establishment of computer database and reserve system;

  • Staff training and safety & environmental management
  • Creation of digital database and GIS Licence administration, liaison with public authorities, government departments and JV partners

SLR has helped prepare the multi-disciplinary planning submission and reproduced all the maps, sections, plans and photographs.
