Demonstration of innovative shallow geothermal technology

SLR imported innovative heat exchanger and drilling technology from Italy and Germany to demonstrate a cost-effective approach on a site in Dublin.

SLR is the industry partner in an EC funded research project related to developing new heat exchangers and drilling techniques for shallow geothermal applications. The project included:

• Develop collector deployment models for different geological environments
• Propose regulatory recommendations for closed loop collectors
• Training for professionals and policy makers
• Promotion of innovative geothermal collector solutions in Ireland demonstrating a reduced potential installation cost compared to conventional collectors that are currently losing out in the market share on installed GSHPs to air source systems.
