Drakelands Mine

Drakelands Mine

Devon, UK

SLR Consulting has recently worked on extending the life of the Drakelands Mine in Devon, England, producing an Environmental Statement and associated documents for the submission of a Section 73 planning application (variation of consent).
The original planning permission for the mine was due to expire in 2022 and therefore the baseline used as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment had to reflect the position of the mine workings in the future (2022), rather than at the time of the application (2015). Using our extensive knowledge and expertise in the mining sector, we were able to predict the future condition of the mine and use this as a baseline from which to conduct the EIA and make a case for continuing the operation of the mine up to 2036. Planning permission for the Section 73 application was granted in 2017.
