Escobal Mine Tailings Dry Stack Facility Design
Location
Guatemala
A new 4,000 TPD sliver mine is being put into production in Guatemala. SLR personnel were contracted by the tailings management contractor, Robertson Geosystems, Inc. to assist with the civil design, surface hydrology and material balance and handling aspects.
Our role
- Provided constructability reviews, and assisted with the equipment selection that includes combinations of conveyor and tuck haulage of both filtered tailings and development waste used for drain and embankment construction.
- Prepared surface drainage plans and performed mass balance analyses to ensure the design intent could be achieved with the project development waste and filtered tailings production schedules.
- Designed the civil layout of the facility including subsurface and surfaces drainage systems and Stormwater retention ponds and provided for diversion of collected underdrain and runoff to either treatment or direct discharge after sedimentation.
