Western Isles AD ABPR License Variation

SLR was commissioned to carry out a short Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) study on a new Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant to ensure it conformed to the necessary process safety requirements.
The Creed Park Anaerobic Digestion facility had entered an agreement with local fish processing and farming companies to take in more fish and fish processing waste in order to increase feed to the digester.
This new type of waste was classified as Category 2 under the Animal By-Product Regulations (ABPR) and required the use of a pasteurisation process for this waste.
SLR carried out the HAZOP study prior to final installation and also undertook a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) study to ensure the correct controls were in place to prevent contamination of final products, and that they met the ABPR requirements.
Coordination of the application for a new license was completed and was given swift, preliminary acceptance so the plant could complete commissioning and initial start-up. The Working Plan and Odor Control Plan were also updated to satisfy SEPA that the necessary controls were in place for the new Pasteurisation Plant.
