SLR Presents at 2013 WASTECON

SLR Chief Operating Officer, SLR Consulting (Canada) Ltd., Richard Johnson, will be presenting at the 2013 WASTECON® Conference to be held in Long Beach, California in September 17-19th.  WASTECON® is an industry-focused conference held by the Solid Waste Association for North America (SWANA).  SWANA is the leading professional association in the solid waste field serving over 8,000 members throughout North America.

Mr. Johnson is giving two presentations "Movin on up the Waste Hierarchy" a presentation centered around the challenges that face us as a consumer society in moving from disposal to reduction and a technical presentation entitled "Life Cycle Assessment of Organic Waste Management Options " A Case Study for the Regional District Central Okanagan" which provides an assessment of the existing organic waste diversion system operated within the Regional District of Okanagan (RDCO) to provide expanded insights as to the efficiency of municipal organic waste management options.  Some surprising outcomes suggest that some of the more popular municipal organic waste management options currently being promoted as more "clean" or "sustainable" may be less attractive when considering the full range of financial, social, and environmental impacts.

Mr. Johnson has more than 23 years experience in waste infrastructure projects.  In the past 15 years, he has worked specifically within the waste industry, where he gained experience in feasibility studies, environmental impact assessment, and planning and licensing of waste facilities.
