Leading urban designer makes his mark on the SLR map
Urban design specialist, Matt Quayle, has joined leading environmental firm SLR Consulting as a Principal in the company’s Sheffield office.
With experience of urban design and regeneration projects in 22 countries, Matt is tasked with working to develop and expand SLR’s urban design offering alongside the company’s landscape, planning and design teams.
Matt has previously been appointed to various government design panels, including the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE, UK). His work includes coordination and project management of residential, mixed-use, town centre and regeneration initiatives and his design work has received awards from the Royal Town Planning Institute, The Civic Trust and the former Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, among others.
Recent projects have included the masterplan, design code and consultation strategy for the £200 million mixed use redevelopment of the iconic former Terry’s Chocolate Factory site in York, the masterplan and design strategy for 2,700 homes for the sustainable new neighbourhood of Fleet Marston in Aylesbury and, urban design proposals for a major new mixed use urban district for the city of Uyo in southern Nigeria.
In addition to an MBA, Matt holds a Masters Degree in Urban and Community Design from The University of California at Berkeley, and landscape architecture Graduate and Undergraduate Degrees from Greenwich University, London.
Outside of consultancy work, Matt teaches at the University of Sheffield and Leeds Metropolitan University and produces research and articles for professional journals.
