John Flannery has recently joined environmental SLR as a Technical Director. He will be based in the firm’s Edinburgh office.
John is a Fellow of the Landscape Institute with 30 years’ environmental and construction experience, including leading the landscape assessment of the largest section of High Speed 2, where he dealt with some very sensitive landscapes and designations.
Prior to joining SLR, John was a Technical Director at ERM where he led its UK Landscape team and provided guidance for European and Middle Eastern projects. At SLR, he will focus on developing the company’s expanding transport expertise and will initially be involved as part of the landscape team leading the LVIA of the North West Coast Connection project, in particular the tunnel section.
“SLR has exceptional experience in linear infrastructure projects, particularly transmission lines, and joining a team that already has an impressive track record in delivering landscape led solutions was very attractive,” said John.
“There are many synergies with my own experience in road and rail infrastructure and I am looking forward to expanding SLRs transportation expertise and providing support to an existing strong team of landscape architects located strategically across the UK,” he added.
John’s experience includes working on a number of international projects, providing a technical review of ESIAs and ESHIAs and Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) guidance. He has also given evidence regarding wind farm development and has experience in residential and educational design.
