SLR’s team of geologists, planners and environmental specialists provide consultancy services to developers and operators who seek to develop both coal extraction sites and coal power stations.

We can provide services that relate to site selection, acquisition, infrastructure requirements, planning and environmental impact assessment as well as permitting and consenting. We also have specialist knowledge and experience of carbon capture, transport & storage

We also work with clients in the development of underground coal gasification projects and coalbed methane (coal seam gas) projects worldwide.

How can SLR help?

  • Site Finding and Acquisition – We have considerable experience in the use of sieve techniques combined with the use of Graphical Information Systems (GIS) which allows the rapid collation of geological data and the ability to view such data alongside a multi-layered constraints model containing planning, environmental and infrastructure constraints
  • Geology – The economics of for example an opencast (surface) coal mining site are closely dependent upon the geological and working scheme models derived for the site.  SLR’s geologists have considerable expertise on the design and implementation of cost effective exploration drilling programmes to build confidence in the economics of the project and to reduce risk. We work closely with its clients to design phased working schemes that optimize the projected cash flow of the scheme
  • Planning and Environmental (Impact) Assessment – Our  mineral planners have extensive experience in the preparation of Environmental Statements in support of planning applications for minerals (coal) extraction sites.  SLR’s in-house technical expertise is extensive covering all the key areas required to produced a good quality Environmental Statement such as archaeology, ecology, hydrogeology, landscape and visual impact, acoustics, air quality and transport
  • Restoration and After-use – We have been responsible for successful promotion of various after-use options to suit the particular location whether this be housing, industrial, landfill, recreation, agricultural or nature conservancy
