David Walker (Global Lead)Close
David Walker is SLR's global sector lead for Mining & Minerals. He has a broad background in engineering, geology, geotechnical engineering and hydrogeology, plus takes an integrated engineering and environmental approach to mining projects.
Most of his experience has been gained in the mining industry over the last 27 years. It covers a range of technical and project work of a geotechnical, hydrogeological, hydrological and tailings or mine waste nature, including a number of environmental engineering projects. David has excelled in forming part of multi-disciplinary teams, providing specialist inputs and/or a project management role for the development of projects. These range from pre-feasibility studies through to design and implementation projects. He has extensive experience of working in developing countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
Steve Dorman (AFR)Close
Steve is the Sector Leader for SLR’s African Operations for Mining and Minerals and has worked in the mining sector of the consulting industry for over 30 years. Steve is a Professional Consulting engineer, specialising in all areas relevant to mine waste management such as tailings and waste engineering, water management and dam engineering, geochemical engineering, heap leach engineering, closure planning and risk assessment.

Andrew is the Sector Leader for Mining & Minerals Services for SLR Consulting Australia Pty Ltd. Andrew has over 18 years of experience in the mining industry, including experience in both operational roles and consulting. Andrew has worked on many projects within the mining, coal seam gas and agricultural sectors both here in Australia and overseas. Andrew has significant experience in mine closure planning including the development of Financial Assurance cost estimation tools for New South Wales, Victoria and the Queensland state governments. Andrew has undertaken numerous audits, including several due diligence audits for major mining and industrial clients, independent environmental compliance audits and exploration audits. Andrew's specialities include EIA, major project approvals & regulatory compliance; Mine rehabilitation – planning, design & management; Mine closure planning & rehabilitation liability review; Risk Assessment; Environmental compliance and due diligence auditing; Community / stakeholder engagement and consultation.
Tim Paul (EUR)Close
Tim Paul is SLR’s Mining & Minerals sector lead for the Europe region and a member of SLR’s European Management Team. He is a chartered engineer and chartered mineral surveyor with over 25 years’ experience in providing strategic development advice, mineral reserve valuation, permitting & EIA; mine waste management; and transactional due diligence services for mining and minerals developments in Europe and internationally. Since 1999 Tim has been the independent technical advisor to Kilroot Underground Salt Mine in Northern Ireland. He has also acted as technical advisor reviewing mining /geotechnical aspects of planning applications for extensions to the underground zinc-lead mines in Ireland. Tim is currently an advisor to a number of construction materials companies on planning, permitting / EIA and mineral reserve valuation. More recently he has been the project director responsible for SLR’s services on a number of major transactions in the international construction materials sector covering Ireland, UK, Europe and North America. Tim is currently the Managing Director of SLR Ireland.
Ian Hutchison (USA)Close
Ian has over 40 years’ experience in technical and financial risk management, mining environmental and remediation engineering, value contracting and risk sharing. He has been responsible for planning, design, and construction management of environmental remediation and mining environmental and infrastructure projects, and has planned and developed mining waste water management, infrastructure, and closure projects, ground and surface water supplies, and dealt extensively with flood studies and flood control projects. His alternative engineering and remediation approaches have resulted in total savings of $100s million. He currently serves on several private sector mine development review boards and serves on the Canadian Governments Review Panel for mine closure design and construction.
Stephan Theben (CA)Close
Stephan is a Managing Principal and Mining Sector Lead for the Canadian Operations. He has provided engineering and environmental services for over 18 years for mining and other projects in over 25 countries in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. His experience includes work with prefeasibility and feasibility studies, EPCM, site construction, Environmental Assessments (EAs), management plans, environmental permitting and stakeholder consultation, including First Nations and Métis.
