Highway design advice for A428 Rugby site

Client Name
Urban & Civic
Location
Rugby, UK

Challenge

SLR provided highway design advice to Urban and Civic on this large residential development at the old Rugby Radio Station site.

The scheme involved the design of two major site accesses to serve the new development as well as the design of an off-site cycleway/footway along the A428.

Solution

SLR acted as lead consultant and principal designer for the Sc278 works. Working collaboratively, we coordinated the design team, which included significant input from the landscape architects due to the ecological significance of the scheme.

We needed to consult on design and negotiate approvals with both Warwickshire County Council and Northamptonshire County Council as the construction works spanned their boundary. An open and collaborative approach was taken to ensure a smooth process.

Impact

The scheme was also politically sensitive as the Sc278 works were effectively the first phase of a development that had undergone a precluded planning process lasting almost a decade. We approached the design and approval process with this in mind, meeting all conditions and ensuring all stakeholders were satisfied with the delivery of the scheme.
