Traffic modelling for the land west of Yarnton, Oxfordshire

Client Name
Merton College
Location
UK

Challenge

Merton College has been granted planning consent for the construction of 540 residential dwellings together with a care home and community work hub on land to the west of the A44. These homes are intended to meet the unmet need of Oxford City.

Solution

SLR provided support to the removal of this site from the Green Belt when it was allocated in a Partial Review of the Cherwell Local Plan, before preparing the necessary information to support a planning application and subsequent successful non-determination appeal.Working in collaboration with other allocated sites in the local environs, SLR developed a traffic model that placed the Vision and Validate approach to place making at its heart.

Impact

This model confirmed that the strategic sustainable transport upgrades identified by the County Council in the site being allocated would be robust enough to dampen down car reliance.
