1. Hendrina South WEF EMPr and Layout Finalisation

Notice is hereby given in terms of Notice is hereby given in terms of Conditions 13 and 14 of the Environmental Authorisation (DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2131) of the submission of the Final Site Layout Plan and Final Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for the authorised Hendrina South Wind Energy Facility (WEF).

The Hendrina South Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure received Environmental Authorisation (EA) on 05 December 2022 from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) (DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2131). The Project is located approximately 12 km southwest of Hendrina and 11 km south-east of Komati located within the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, of the Nkangala District Municipality, and in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality of the Gert Sibande District Municipality.Mpumalanga Province.

In terms of the conditions contained in the original EA, the Site Layout Plan and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for the Hendrina South WEF were not approved and must therefore be finalised for approval from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) prior to commencement of the activity.

In this regard the Applicant has prepared the final layout plan, final EMPr, related Management Plans and undertaken the specialist walk-throughs as per the conditions of the relevant EA and would like to submit the documentation to the DFFE, as the CA for review and approval.

The Developer has established a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), who will be the Applicant for this Project, namely Hendrina South Wind Energy Facility (RF) Pty Ltd (The Applicant). The Hendrina South WEF will connect to the National Grid at the existing Hendrina Power Station Main Transmission Substation (MTS), via the Hendrina South Grid Infrastructure Project.

2. Hendrina WEF EMPr and Layout Finalisation

Notice is hereby given in terms of Conditions 13 and 14 of the Environmental Authorisation (DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2130) of the submission of the Final Site Layout Plan and Final Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) for the authorised Hendrina North Wind Energy Facility (WEF).

The Hendrina North Wind Energy Facility and associated infrastructure received Authorisation (EA) on 07 December 2022 from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) (DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2130). The Project is located approximately 11 km west of Hendrina and 9 km south-east of Komati located within the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, of the Nkangala District Municipality, Mpumalanga
Province.

At the time of issuing the EA the project name was the Hendrina North Renewable Energy Complex: Wind Energy Facility and Associated Infrastructure. Because ownership of the project has been transferred from Hendrina North Wind Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd to Hendrina South Wind Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd as it will be developed as part of the Hendrina South WEF (currently the subject of a separate layout finalisation process: DFFE Reference (14/12/16/3/3/2/2131/MP1), the name is now Hendrina Wind Energy Facility. It is noted that the Applicant name change, and facility name change is being applied for within a Part 1 Amendment Application. The formal Part 1 Amendment Application for this change will be submitted to the DFFE together with the Final EMPr and Site Layout Plan after the 30-day PPP required for the layout finalisation process. In the interim the name change has
been explained in the EMPr and specialist reports that are currently being reviewed by the public.

The Final Appendix 4 EMPr for the WEF, Generic EMPr for the Substation, and Final Layout with supporting documentation and relevant Appendices, are available to all registered I&APs for public comment from 30 August 2024 to 30 September 2024.

Notice is hereby given, in terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 promulgated under NEMA, that the Environmental Management Programme prepared for the above-mentioned projects were submitted to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) for decision.

2. Hendrina WEF EMPr and Layout Finalisation

Notice is hereby given, in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act 107 of 1998), that the Environmental Management Programme prepared for the proposed project has been made available for a 30-day public review and comment period from 30 August 2024 – 30 September 2024.

Should you and/or your organisation wish to comment on any aspect of the Final Layout Plan and Final EMPr, comments should be forwarded to SLR at the email address and telephone number shown above no later than 30 September 2024.

By providing your personal information to submit a comment, you will be included in the SLR an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) database, and you consent to SLR managing your information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. It is assumed that as an I&AP for this Project you authorise SLR to retain and use your Personal Information as part of a contact database for this and/or other Social and Environmental Impact Assessments (ESIA) and that you confirm your acceptance for SLR to contact you regarding this and/or other ESIA processes.
