G7 Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd (G7) is proposing to develop the Aria Phase 1 Wind Energy Facility (WEF) with a generation capacity of up to 260 MW, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and associated infrastructure. The overall objective of the proposed development is to generate electricity by means of renewable wind energy to feed into the national grid.
The proposed Aria Phase 1 WEF is located approximately 33 km from Nelspoort and 32 km from Murraysburg in the Beaufort West Local Municipality within the Central Karoo District Municipality in the Western Cape Province. The WEF is also located within the Beaufort West Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ) as defined in terms of the procedures laid out in Government Notice (GN) No. 114.
G7 has appointed SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd as the Independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to undertake the required BA process for the proposed Aria Phase 1 WEF Project, in terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended) promulgated under the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998) (NEMA).
