CFD, Wind, & Energy
As our world becomes more urban, the interaction of wind and climate with the built environment will become more important to the creation of sustainable built and natural environments. SLR frequently assists with building design, land-use planning, building approvals, urban and landscape design, policy development, agriculture, water management and efficiency, coastal management, and insurance risk assessments with regards to the implications of our ever-changing climate. Our experience includes projects across diverse regions, from the Arctic to desert environments.
Overview
Using a variety of qualitative and quantitative analysis approaches, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and boundary layer wind tunnels, our team can accurately conduct statistical analysis of wind and other meteorological parameters, model air flow, turbulence, and heat transfer to answer key concerns from clients and regulatory bodies. We use this analysis to address pedestrian wind and thermal comfort concerns, provide cladding design pressures to enable building material specification, provide structural and aeroelastic wind tunnel testing and assessment of aerodynamic damping where required.
This provides our clients with an innovative approach to ensure their design is correct the first time.
Our team also provide weather and climate analysis for extreme weather scenarios and future climate change projection, from small community impacts to regional influence.
Wind, climate and energy usage, are all integral elements in the creation and sustainability of our built and natural environment.
We provide cutting edge specialist sustainability, energy efficiency services and creative aerodynamic and thermodynamic solutions, design and design optimisation services for major buildings, environmental and industrial process engineering projects.
Our guidance is frequently used to assist in policy development, building design and approvals, urban and landscape design, land-use planning, water management and efficiency, coastal management, industrial application of CFD and insurance risk assessments.
