Founded back in 1984, WISE is an organisation which has helped thousands of individuals, organisations and businesses to support the one million women working in the STEM sector and has contributed to a wide range of campaigns to raise the profile of women and girls working in STEM. We are pleased to have just joined WISE, and are excited for the opportunities this will bring for all genders at SLR.
Females currently represent 39% of SLR in Europe, and whilst we have made some progress in improving our gender balance, we recognise there is still much to be done to increase the number of women, particularly in leadership roles. Commencing our relationship with WISE therefore seems like an obvious choice to help us further attract, retain, develop and progress our female talent across SLR, whilst also supporting women working across our industry.
Is WISE just for women?
Absolutely not! WISE campaigns for gender balance in STEM and not only welcomes, but actively encourages men to participate and be part of the change which WISE, and SLR, see as important to drive the agenda forward. Lots of men have become WISE members and have benefitted from the events and activities that they offer.
What does WISE do?
There are lots of ways in which SLR will benefit, develop and improve from our WISE membership. Taking a look at the WISE events calendar will give you some insights into the types of webinars and knowledge sharing WISE offers. There are also regional hubs scattered throughout the UK, giving women and men in STEM a local network to get involved with. The local hubs give people the opportunity to meet easily to discuss issues, share success strategies and inspire girls at local schools about the great career opportunities available for women in science and engineering.
