Biography
Simon is an experienced Landscape Architect, who specialises in landscape and visual impact assessment (LVIA), particularly for large scale development proposals, including renewable energy, major infrastructure and utilities, residential and urban regeneration projects. He has authored many LVIA Environmental Statement (ES) chapters, managed the application of 3D visualisation and GIS for LVIA; acted as expert witness at examination and planning hearings; and has prepared appeal statements and precognitions.
Simon has a particular interest and specialism in renewable energy, having undertaken numerous LVIAs for onshore windfarms since its inception throughout Scotland, including some of the largest windfarms now operating in the UK. Recently Simon has been focused particularly on offshore wind farm projects, leading the SLVIA of two nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIP) in south-east England, as well as the delivery of landscape plan consent conditions for onshore infrastructure associated with these offshore windfarms.
Simon also has an active role at SLR in undertaking townscape assessments (TVIA) and visual appraisals for residential and urban re-development projects. He brings a broad understanding and experience of working on projects at a range of scales, often within a wider multi-disciplinary team, along with an innovative approach to design and assessment.
