Isles of Scilly incineration support

Client Name
Council of the Isles of Scilly (IoS)
Location
The Isles of Scilly, UK

Challenge

The Council of the Isles of Scilly engaged SLR to carry out a broad waste management review which investigated a comprehensive range of waste disposal issues on the Islands. As part of the project, SLR’s Process Engineering team carried out a review of the operation of the island’s waste incinerator.

The IoS Council required an appraisal of the existing waste incinerator that served the islands. This included operational monitoring of the existing facility and comparing this to expected performance and permitted limits.

Solution

With this information, SLR’s team were able to complete an options appraisal to deliver quantitative recommendations to the IoS Council on their future waste strategy.

Impact

This appraisal concluded that, due to the requirement of a new incinerator installation, and the associated costs, it was more cost effective to export the waste to mainland UK.
