Challenge
SLR was appointed by the client to provide environmental services for the development of a luxury hotel on land located within the Darwin Waterfront Precinct.
As the proposed development was partially located on an area reclaimed in the 1970’s, contamination management was required.
Solution
Contamination management addressed the following contaminants of concern: Heavy Metal contamination in soils and included Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH), Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Organochlorine and Organophosphate (OC/OP) pesticides, Polycyclin Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) Priority metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni, Zn and Hg) Asbestos and Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS)
SLR outlined management and remediation methods for the identified contamination, which would manage the associated environmental risks.
Impact
This provision of environmental strategic advice assisted with the project design to progress the development through to construction.
