North Slope development permitting

Client Name
Global Oil and Gas Company
Location
Alaska, USA

Challenge

A global oil and gas company, which had obtained a leasehold on the Alaska North Slope required SLR’s assistance in designing and obtaining permitting for this new hydrocarbon deposit operation. The proposed Nanushuk Project was designed to include: three gravel pads for drilling, processing facilities and an operations center, gravel access roads, and a 14-mile-long pipeline to connect this development to the company’s existing pipeline infrastructure.

Solution

SLR’s air quality team quickly and efficiently compiled all the necessary meteorological and air quality baseline data for an Environmental Evaluation Document (EED) and prepared it for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review. Also included in the documentation for NEPA review were project and cumulative air quality impact analysis, which included air dispersion modeling, and oil spill prevention and response information that included oil spill risk analysis.

The team worked closely with the project engineering team to ensure the project design was consistent with air quality permitting and federal regulatory requirements.

Impact

The global oil and gas company was pleased with the results of SLR’s air quality team with their due diligence, accuracy, and professionalism in completing the project. Alaska’s North Slope is estimated to be one of the largest conventional oil discoveries in the U.S. in decades.
