Transport assessment and travel plan for Costco Distribution Centre, Crick

Challenge
The Crick Costco distribution centre facility has replaced Costco’s only UK distribution centre at Magna Park, which had become too small to meet its requirements. The new distribution warehouse comprises a total of 52,393 sq m of floorspace and includes 430 HGV parking spaces and 330 car parking spaces. The site is located at Junction 18 of the M1 Motorway in Crick, Northamptonshire.
Solution
We were retained by Costco to prepare the transport assessment and travel plan for the new Crick distribution centre as well as undertake Public Right of Way diversions.
The site had a live planning consent for B8 warehouse and distribution land use and the transport assessment demonstrated that the level of trips generated by the Costco distribution centre was within the consented parameters for the site.
The Crick site is relatively close to the former Magna Park Costco distribution centre, which provided an opportunity to transfer existing staff.
Impact
We provided a strategy that would encourage staff to travel to and from the site by sustainable modes, which included negotiating a bus contribution with the local highway authority to improve bus services to the site.
