Challenge

SLR has won two back to back competitive Standing Offers to conduct Drinking Water Supply Vulnerability Studies and prepare Monitoring and Management Plans at Department of National Defence (DND) Military Establishments across Canada.

The Establishments are supplied by groundwater and surface water supplies covering large areas that must be protected to ensure the safety of consumers.

Solution

The objective of the work is to review existing data, collect and interpret sufficient hydrogeological, hydrological, and contaminant information to determine the vulnerability of the source water, identify well head protection areas (WHPAs) and intake protection zones (IPZs), determine and rank threats to water supply quantity and quality, and to develop a monitoring and management plan to ensure the ongoing protection of source water.

Work under the Contract is organised into three assignments, as follows:

  • Assignment 1: Water Supply Vulnerability Assessment
  • Assignment 2: Water Quality Analysis
  • Assignment 3: Comprehensive Water Supply Monitoring and Management

Impact

SLR has successfully completed 13 assignments at 8 establishments to date, allowing DND to further their objective of ongoing source to tap protection of drinking water.
