Philip Bayne

Biography

Philip is based in our Melbourne office and has over 32 years of combined experience in mineral and groundwater exploration, hydrogeological assessment, assessment and remediation of contaminated soil and groundwater, and environmental auditing; including various technical and project delivery lead roles for various contaminated land and groundwater projects.

In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Phil was responsible for supervision of numerous, and often remote, mineral and groundwater exploration drilling programmes as an exploration geologist in the Western Australian Goldfields, including construction of groundwater monitoring and production bores for dewatering an open cut pit. At around that time he led geological investigation through mined coal seems along the River Tyne in Newcastle England, ahead of tunnel boring equipment for sewer pipeline installation. Over the past twenty-five years he has worked in the fields of contaminated land assessment and remediation; resolving issues relating to a range of industrial contamination sources and geological environments.

His skills include hydrogeological site characterisation (plume delineation, hydraulic conductivity testing and natural attenuation assessments), soil assessments, remediation, and ultimately risk characterisation of groundwater contamination issues, and associated risks of soil vapour migration. He is experienced in groundwater contamination fate and transport investigations, development of conceptual site models (including LNAPL and DNAPL) and groundwater fate and transport numerical modelling.

Philip was appointed in 2009 by EPA Victoria as Environmental Auditor (Contaminated Land).He has been an Auditor Expert Support Team member for Hydrogeology for several Victorian, SA and WA EPA Auditors. In 2023 Philip was accredited with CEnvP General and Site Contamination Specialist and Environmental Auditor for Contaminated Land in QLD.
