Acoustics advice for New Zealand’s first IKEA store
- Client Name
- Ikea New Zealand Limited
- Location
- Auckland, New Zealand
Challenge
New Zealand’s first IKEA store was conceived to provide sustainable spaces that better serve the environment and people in one of Auckland’s largest and busiest retail parks. The project design required particular attention to key performance and environmental categories aiming to achieve the New Zealand Green Building Council’s (NZGBC) Green Star 5 rating.
Solution
Our Acoustics and Vibration team in New Zealand was engaged to provide design advice on compliance with Auckland Council’s noise and vibration requirements, as well as achieve IKEA benchmark targets and the Acoustic Comfort credits included in the Indoor Environment Quality category of Green Star, which involves Internal Noise Levels, Reverberation and Acoustic Separation.
We worked collaboratively with an international design team through a holistic approach that allowed us to condense our technical knowledge and experience in providing similar services for the IKEA Marsden Park in Sydney, to form locally relevant methods.
This resulted in practical and feasible solutions for building elements and building services that enhanced the comfort and wellbeing of the occupants.
Impact
By providing timely, targeted and responsive acoustic design advice to the project team, the project successfully achieved the acoustic credits that led to a Green Star Design Review Certification. The project is currently under construction and is expected to achieve the As Built component once completed.
