East Anglia Two and One North offshore wind farms

Client Name
Scottish Power Renewables
Location
Suffolk

East Anglia TWO and East Anglia ONE North are located in the southern North Sea, over 32km from the Suffolk coast. The proposed East Anglia TWO project would have an operational capacity of up to 900MW and East Anglia ONE North would have an operational capacity of up to 800MW. Together, this is enough to power approximately 660,000 UK households, which is enough to power almost 1.5 million UK households.

SLR’s Place team recently led the production of the offshore SLVIA and onshore LVIAs for the East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia TWO projects. As Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP), East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia TWO are subject to separate DCO applications and required separate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).The two projects are adjacent to each other, both offshore and onshore, with EIAs undertaken in parallel and with the same application submission date. SLR led the SLVIA for the offshore windfarms and their associated onshore infrastructure, which were recently submitted to the Planning Inspectorate with separate DCO applications for each project.

The effects of the offshore wind farms and onshore infrastructure on the special qualities of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB and Heritage Coast were key issues of particular importance in the SLVIA, as were the potential effects on views experienced by local residents and visitors to Suffolk’s coast. The proposals for the onshore substation site include adjacent project substations for East Anglia ONE North and East Anglia TWO, a National Grid substation and overhead line re-alignment works.

SLR prepared the Outline Landscape Mitigation Plan (OLMP) as part of the requirement for outline landscape and ecological mitigation and enhancement measures that are reflective of the surveys and impact assessment carried out for the onshore electrical transmission works.
