Challenge
SLR has an extended history of working for Cleanaway at the Erskine Park site. Initially, SLR was engaged to undertake the landfill capping design and closure plan works as part of the ongoing landfill operation. SLR was subsequently engaged to undertake a pre-feasibility study at the Erskine Park site to investigate the commercial and environmental viability to build and operate a dry recycling and waste transfer operation as part of the continued use of site.
Cleanaway also engaged SLR for the Detailed Feasibility Study for resource management facility at Erskine Park. The project was being developed in two stages the first being a Waste Transfer Station, and the second a Resource Recovery Facility.
Solution
A Detailed Design and Environmental Impact Statement was completed for stage one with design. SLR’s scope also included community consultation, input to business case and market assessment and the preparation of specialist studies in the areas of air quality and odour, noise, ground conditions, hazards, ecology, greenhouse gas, surface water and socioeconomics.
The client also engaged SLR to prepare post approvals documentation for the approved development, including; licence applications, Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP) and Annual Reviews.
The project has involved teams from SLR’s Sydney and Newcastle office working alongside our UK based civil and structural design teams, demonstrating SLR’s ability to draw on its global expertise to deliver solutions for clients.
Impact
The findings of the pre-feasibility and accompanying business case modelling has assisted Cleanaway in making decisions on the future stages for the ongoing development of the Erskine Park site.
