Challenge

The Kawana Wastewater Treatment Plant is a key sewage treatment facility serving over 150,000 people within the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. 

The client required experienced aquatic ecologists to re-design and implement Monitoring Programs to monitor any potential interactions with the receiving environments.

Solution

frc environmental, now SLR were engaged to design and implement the Receiving Environment Monitoring Program (REMP) for releases from the wastewater treatment plant.

Impact

The Project is providing valuable information to the client and to Department of Environment, Science and Innovation on the potential impacts that discharges to the Ocean and River are having on the water quality of the receiving environments. This information will be used to inform decision making on future expansions to the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant as population growth increases on the Sunshine Coast.
