Challenge
Working for a large oil and gas client in Metro Vancouver, SLR was part of a team that completed a soil, groundwater, sediment and porewater investigation, and assisted in the completion of a remedial options analysis (ROA) for an industrial site in a marine environment.
Solution
The contaminants of concern included petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The ROA was divided into upgradient and downgradient zones. Various options for preventing off-site migration of contaminated groundwater and light non-aqueous phase liquids were evaluated for the over 400m upgradient zone and the ~ 100 m wide downgradient, foreshore marine zone was managed using a risk assessment component.
Impact
The final installation won the 2018 BC Environmental Managers Association award for Remediation and Restoration.
