Namwaste - Proposed Development of the Namwaste Management Facility (NMF) for the treatment and disposal of general and hazardous waste in the Erongo region

Namwaste (Pty) Ltd (Namwaste), as part of the Rent-A-Drum Group, is proposing to develop a new general and hazardous waste treatment and disposal facility in the Erongo region of Namibia to be known as the Namwaste Management Facility (NMF).

The development of the Namwaste Management Facility is subject to an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) being granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) in terms of the Environmental Management Act, 2007 (No. 7 of 2007) (EMA).

Granting of the ECC is subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) being undertaken. SLR Environmental Consulting (Namibia) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed to undertake the necessary EIA process on behalf of Namwaste.

Status

The Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Namwaste Facility was issued on 5th March 2025. In terms of Section 50 of the Environmental Management Act, you may appeal against the ECC decision if you are aggrieved by the decision of the Environmental Commissioner. Per Regulation 25(2) of the EIA Regulations, any appeal must be submitted within 14 days from the date of receipt of notice, be made on the form available from the Ministry, and be accompanied by the prescribed fee.
