Job Description

SLR has ambitious plans for the expansion of its Landscape presence within the UK, and to help realise these plans it is looking to appoint a leading Landscape professional to join at a senior level and to play a key role in the future growth and development of the team in Bristol.

Joining as part of (and with the support of) its established European Landscape team, the person joining will have an outstanding opportunity to use SLR’s network of clients and contacts, along with their own established network to grow, develop and deliver a portfolio of projects within the region – and to grow and lead a team of Landscape Architects within the office to support delivery of projects. The successful candidates will be expected to actively contribute to SLR’s portfolio of diverse and challenging projects, working alongside some of the UK’s leading landscape experts .

Reporting to the Discipline Manager you would be working on a range of diverse and challenging urban design, public realm, residential and power sector projects alongside project managers and directors. We would expect you to be interested in being involved in landscape planning including master planning, public enquiry work and landscape and visual assessments.

We would also like you to help develop and expand the team’s expertise and workload and actively take part in business development and securing new commissions for the team.

Main duties:
o carry out environmental impact assessments;
o support the technical directors on large projects
o lead and delivery your own projects
o oversee the design of a variety of projects, including urban regeneration schemes, pedestrian schemes, road or retail schemes and maintain the character of sites of natural beauty;
o establish general landscape requirements for projects with clients;
o conduct preliminary feasibility studies of the site (including contours, soil, ecology, buildings, roads, heritage);
o accurately prepare and present detailed plans and working drawings
o present proposals to clients, deal with enquiries and negotiate any amendments to the final design;
o carry out site visits;
o liaise with other professionals on the project;
o attend public inquiries to give evidence if necessary;
o prepare fee tenders, and lead cross-functional teams;
o generate new business opportunities

Person Spec Summary

  • The candidate will need to be a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute and an experienced senior professional with particular expertise in LVIA, Landscape Design, and be familiar with working within the UK’s national planning policy framework.
  • The successful candidate will be able to show they can work positively in a variety of demanding environments, have commercial acumen, work with multi-disciplinary teams with different goals and be pro-active in developing business opportunities and maintaining client relations.
  • Key to this role will be the ability to develop confidence and trust in your relationships with clients, stakeholders, statutory consultees and colleagues alike.
