Job Description

Due to an increasing workload we are looking for talented landscape architects at Principal or Technical Director grade, to join our growing landscape team in Scotland . The successful candidates would work on a varied workload including major development projects; they would work within an accomplished and well-structured team with a commitment to quality and maintaining the highest professional standards.

Our Edinburgh office is located in an attractive building in Edinburgh Park and within easy walking distance of a range of facilities and located within ten minutes’ walk from the tram station which provides easy access to the city centre and wider travel networks.

The successful candidates will be expected to actively contribute to SLR’s portfolio of diverse and challenging projects, working alongside some of the UK’s leading landscape experts.

The Principal post is a significant career opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced landscape professional, to work with nationally respected Directors and an experienced landscape planning and design team which has a track record of delivering challenging projects. You will be able to demonstrate a high level of responsibility, working with your clients and our diverse client base.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage a range of project work and staff, providing leadership and guidance for junior staff. You will also be able to contribute directly to securing new work, and will be expected to help build cross discipline relationships liaise with other professional teams within SLR Consulting.

We are looking an experienced professional who can demonstrate a successful track record in project and line management, good organisational skills and winning new work. A high standard of written, graphic and verbal communication skills is also required. The successful candidate will be experienced in landscape and visual impact assessment, landscape masterplanning and ideally have experience of acting as an expert witness at public inquiries. Experience of high end landscape and public realm design would be an advantage.

Reporting to the Discipline Manger you would be working on a range of diverse and challenging urban design, public realm, residential and power sector projects alongside project managers and directors. We would expect you to be interested in being involved in landscape planning including master planning, public enquiry work and landscape and visual assessments.

We would also like you to help develop and expand the team’s expertise and workload and actively take part in business development and securing new commissions for the team.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • carry out environmental impact assessments

  • manage a range of project work

  • providing leadership and guidance for junior staff

  • contribute to securing new work

  • support the technical directors on large projects

  • help build cross discipline relationships liaise with other professional teams within SLR

  • prepare fee tenders, and lead cross-functional teams

  • generate new business opportunities
