San Bernardino Omya Quarry

Environmental Impact Report Preparation

Location

California

The County of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino National Forest is jointly preparing an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) describing expansion of a limestone quarry in San Bernardino County. The EIR describes two deepened and laterally enlarged mine pits, and an expanded waste rock storage area.

Our role

SLR provided technical review, independent analyses, impact evaluations, and the establishment of mitigation measures for the geology and soils, hydrology and water quality aspects of this EIR effort. SLR reviewed technical studies prepared by the applicant. Based on these studies, SLR conducted peer technical review, identified data gaps, conducted independent technical evaluations, and prepared technical memoranda for the clients’ consultants use in preparing the EIR sections. Technical aspects of this particular project included establishment of depth to groundwater in a mountainous area, incremental increase in groundwater pumping, and slope stability. Once all data gaps were resolved, SLR provided technical assistance in conception of mitigation measures.
