Challenge

SLR was commissioned by CHP Projects to produce a Landscape Concept and Detailed Design package for the Bethania Retail Development in accordance with the Logan City Council Planning Scheme and Guidelines.

The Bethania Development is a mixed commercial development that is located along Logan Road within the district of Logan City Council.

As part of the project brief, SLR was engaged to produce a Landscape Concept and Detailed Design solution for the soft scape landscaping works for the project site whilst enhancing the existing and local character of the site. In addition to this the planting needed to low maintenance, whilst working with the existing topographical site conditions and complementing the proposed architecture of the development.

The proposed landscape planting was required to provide shade to car parking areas and pathways whilst maintaining clear visibility into the site.

It was also conditioned that the proposed vegetation was to remain open long the perimeter of the site to enable clear sight lines from passing motorists to key signage.

Solution

In order to respond to the design brief and meet the needs of the Council Planning Schemes and Codes and requirements, SLR saw the value to propose a palette of Native shrubs and groundcovers through a swathe planting design within the development.

The proposed native shrubs and groundcover planting would not only meet the brief by being low maintenance, however would provide contrasting colour, and create interesting and visual appearance through varying heights and foliage texture. Furthermore, complementing the neighbouring streetscape planting along Logan Road and promoting the character and identity of the Bethania Retail Development Site itself.
