Challenge

SLR’s multi-disciplinary team completed a project at Dalton Army Barracks, with the proposal to ultimately deliver up to 4,500 dwellings, three primary schools and a secondary school, an employment area and mixed-use local centre, community hubs, infrastructure and extensive public open space.

Solution

SLR led the development of the vision for the site and the associated design concept and masterplan for the scheme and worked creatively with various constraints. This also involved coordinating technical inputs into that process.

As part of the Local Plan process, there was extensive consultation with the Local Planning Authority and Oxford County Council, as well as the Neighbourhood Planning Forum. SLR played an integral part of this consultation process with key stakeholders.

The scheme proposed the reuse of some buildings to be retained for their heritage value with considerable benefits to the wider area.
