Challenge
Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa (the spa) is a $50 million dollar indigenous owned luxury spa and wellness centre located on the Rotorua Lakefront. The five-star development is the first step in creating a wider health and wellness campus which is expected to boost the local economy by tens of millions of dollars per year.
SLR were engaged to provide acoustic consultancy advice for the spa to support the project through developed and detailed design. Spaces which were of particular importance were enclosed areas such as private treatment rooms and lounging areas and ensuring suitable levels of absorption within the ceiling and wall designs were made.
Solution
Our team established the acoustic performance design criteria and reverberation times for the different areas of the development, ensuring these were in line with relevant industry standards and the client's specific expectations. Special considerations were given to any high noise generating areas such as plant rooms and lounge areas adjacent to noise sensitive areas as well as the constraints around materials which could be used in the geothermal environment.
An assessment of internal architectural wall, floor and ceiling details against the project requirements was undertaken along with an acoustic assessment of the building services to ensure control of noise spaces via ventilation ductwork and from plant rooms to quiet spaces beneath.
Impact
The acoustic design services provided by our team throughout the project development was crucial in guaranteeing the acoustic environments were fit for purposes across various spaces.
