Biography
Dougie leads the architectural team at SLR. He studied at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Aberdeen and spent the formative years of his career in large commercial private practice working through the ranks building up an in-depth knowledge of design and procurement across a wide variety of sectors. He has regularly led both internally and across wider design teams in the delivery of complex projects including bespoke corporate headquarters, mixed use regeneration developments and high-quality residential schemes. Hewent on to establish and run his own practice for 10 years prior to joining SLR.
Dougie is passionate about good design and the positive impact it can have on people’s lives, whether it be urban planning on a grand scale or a single detail within a new home. At SLR we enjoy having the opportunity to work at both ends of that scale, and all points between, with our work constantly ranging from buildings which have emerged from masterplans to individual one-off commissions.
Dougie is also keenly aware of the fundamental importance of successful delivery, meeting clients’ expectations in terms of budget, programme and quality. Projects cannot be considered to have been a success if our design aspirations are not balanced with these practical delivery considerations.
Key projects Dougie has been involved with at SLR range from large scale residential and mixed-use developments at Countesswells in Aberdeen and Fasque House Estate, to individual bespoke houses in Edinburgh’s New Town and a rich town centre regeneration project in Penicuik.
