Glendenning Materials Recovery Facility Waste Management Plan

Client Name
Charter Hall, Project Strategy and Cleanaway
Location
Western Sydney, Australia

Challenge

The western Sydney materials recovery facility was built to accept kerbside recyclables from Blacktown City Council as well as commercial recyclables. Our client required a construction and operation waste management plan to support its development application and assessment by New South Wales (NSW) Planning and the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Solution

SLR provided initial advice on waste storage area requirements for the ongoing operation of the materials recovery facility as well as an appropriate waste management system. The advice was used to update site designs to show waste storage areas. Based on the updated design, our team developed a comprehensive waste management plan aimed at addressing preparation, construction and operational stages of the development. Our team liaised with NSW Planning and the EPA to ensure they understood its operation and features and enabled successful approval of the project.

Impact

The waste management plan was prepared to meet the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements and operator Cleanaway’s requirements, while following good and safe practice principles for waste management. The plan assisted the client in obtaining the approval for development of the materials recovery facility.
