Transport advice for proposed new market town, Mayfields

Client Name
Mayfield Market Towns Limited
Location
UK

Challenge

Mayfields is a proposal for a new market town between Brighton and Crawley, providing homes for people of all ages, as well as new schools, public transport, shops and leisure facilities. It will be built on garden city principles, which include: a strong vision, leadership and community engagement; community ownership of land and long-term stewardship of assets.

The aim is to build a sustainable community that internally contains many of the facilities required to support the new town along with excellent links to public transport.

Solution

We are providing transport advice to support the site for inclusion in both the Horsham and Mid-Sussex District Councils’ Local Plans.

Extensive discussions are taking place with West Sussex County Council and Highways England as well as local bus operators to develop a transport strategy that can accommodate the development. As well as highway infrastructure improvements, the town and surrounding areas are being designed to encourage walking, cycling and public transport movements.

Impact

We are preparing the evidence base to underpin the transport strategy which will include strategic and local transport modelling as well as a comprehensive package of measures to mitigate the impact of the new town.
