- Client Name
- ABP
- Location
- London, UK
Challenge
SLR was appointed by ABP to provide transport consultancy in relation to the proposed development of 14 hectares of vacant land adjacent to Royal Albert Dock, to provide 325,000 sq m of commercial development with associated retail and residential space.
The development, opposite London City Airport, is one of the largest development projects in the UK and is billed as the capital’s next business district, forging new trade links with China and other economies in the Asia-Pacific region and securing billions of pounds of inward investment in the UK economy.
Solution
SLR provided advice to the project team throughout the development of the scheme masterplan. Our areas of focus were access from the public highway, site layout, car and cycle parking, accessibility, permeability, access to Docklands Light Rail services and deliveries and servicing. Extensive negotiations with TfL about improvements to the DLR network near the proposed development were essential to ensure that it can cater for the anticipated future demand.
Impact
We prepared a transport assessment, framework travel plan, and delivery and servicing plan which included a detailed assessment of trip generation for the proposed development and its subsequent impact on the public transport and highway networks.
The application was granted planning consent by the London Borough of Newham.
