Transport input for Victoria Square, Woking
- Client Name
- Bandstand Square Developments
- Location
- Woking, UK
Challenge
The Victoria Square development will deliver 11,000 sq m of new retail floorspace in Woking town centre, 400 residential apartments in two towers, a 190-bed hotel with conference facilities, spa and gym, space for a medical centre, additional car parking spaces and two new public plazas.
The redevelopment will also encourage a change in the way people and vehicles move around this part of the town centre through the realignment of Cawsey Way and the change of the High Street to one way only.
Solution
SLR was retained by Bandstand Square Developments to provide transport input into the Victoria Square scheme, taking it through planning and the detailed design stage.
Our role has included the design of the transport infrastructure to support the development, including a revised highway layout, new bus infrastructure and taxi facilities as well as improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Impact
We assessed the transport effects of the scheme and proposed changes to the transport networks. We also worked closely with Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council to reach agreement on the technical analysis and Transport Strategy for the scheme.
