Senior Hydrogeologist, Africa

Job Description

The Senior Hydrogeologist will be responsible for designing and completing groundwater supply, groundwater monitoring, groundwater impact assessment and/or groundwater quality assessments. In fulfilling this responsibility the Senior Hydrogeologist will be responsible for undertaking significant fieldwork which will include drilling and testing supervision and managing SLR’s field team and equipment in Namibia. All field activities must be delivered in a manner that meets best practice Environment, Health and Safety standards in compliance with SLR’s requirements and in consultation with the applicable government agencies and client expectations. The Senior Hydrogeologist will be responsible for interpreting hydrogeological data and compiling reports

This is a client-facing role and the incumbent will be expected to interact with clients both in the delivery of projects and in identifying and securing opportunities for SLR in Africa.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Collecting and interpreting technical data and information from maps and historical documents to build a conceptual model of groundwater flow and quality
  • Undertaking field work throughout Africa
  • Borehole siting by means of scientific methods
  • Conducting hydrocensus’
  • Groundwater modeling
  • Fieldwork team management
  • Maintaining SLR’s fieldwork equipment, identifying future equipment needs and preparing (in conjunction with line management) appropriate CAPEX requests
  • Representing the client in environmental and related issues at a local level
  • Project management and liaison with clients and authorities
  • Remain knowledgeable of both national and international market and industry trends; Management of EHS risks for fieldwork and other activities
  • Ensures compliance to Company guidelines, policies procedures, relevant legislation and codes of practice

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology / Earth Science(s) and post-graduate degree preferably in hydrogeology or related field
  • Graduate to 5 years work experience in the field of hydrogeology
  • Proficiency in MS Office with intermediate Excel and Word knowledge; ArcGIS; Groundwater software (borehole logs, testing)
  • Groundwater modelling experience will be advantageous
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel locally and abroad as and when required

  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills with a strong proficiency in written and verbal English
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work accordingly
  • Should display attention to detail, problem solving skills and be able to synthesize complex or diverse information, collect and research data, use intuition and experience to complement data and design work flows and procedures;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have the willingness to adapt to changing company and work requirements
  • Project management skills
  • Must solicit and apply internal and external client feedback for continuous improvement
