Occupational Hygiene Assessment (AUS)

The Defence Centre for Occupational Health (DCOH) engaged SLR to deliver a range of services to enable achievement of Objective 4 of the Defence OH&S Strategy. This included an aim to improve the prevention of occupational injury illness and disease, with a specific emphasis on Defence policy for occupational hygiene assessments, concentrating on high risk areas including deployed and industrial environments.

Project Objectives:

Hygienists from SLR were deployed to the Department of Defence with active response services to Groups and Services within Defence including Army, Navy and Air Force. A senior hygienist was seconded within the Defence Centre for Occupational Health and directly assisted and enhanced Departmental capabilities.

Our Role

SLR undertook the following works:

  • Provide an active in-house occupational hygiene response service to Defence sites across Australia
  • Conducting studies of operations and processes, determine exposure to hazards, devising methods, selecting instruments, conducting studies and providing reports
  • Provide high level advice to assist in Defence Policy development on hygiene
  • Mentor and provide training to Defence Health and Safety staff in Occupational Hygiene
