Experienced Hydrogeologist joins SLR’s Land Quality & Remediation team
SLR Consulting announces the appointment of Duncan Cartwright, a new Principal Hydrogeologist, within the Land Quality & Remediation team. Duncan joins SLR from WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff and has over 15 years’ experience working for international engineering and environmental consultancies. He has worked with a broad range of clients including in both the private and public sector – from local authorities to global corporations. Duncan has a wide range of hydrogeological experience in both clean water and contaminated land aspects and specialises in quantitative risk assessment and groundwater remediation.
With the benefit of his experience as a practitioner, Duncan has a keen interest in progressing and developing the technical aspects of the risk assessment process. He has adapted modelling techniques and has taken novel approaches when conceptualising complex sites to obtain robust but achievable remedial target values that provide confidence to the regulator without disproportionate costs to the landowner.
Commenting on the appointment, Jon Parry, Technical Director, Land Quality & Remediation said “Duncan joins the land quality team in Bristol, where he will strengthen our existing capabilities and help to deliver our current demanding workload, particularly within the downstream oil and gas sector.”
Duncan has presented at conferences on the advances in groundwater monitoring techniques, overcoming technical challenges in groundwater risk assessment and hydrocarbon fate and transport in fractured bedrocks. He has recently provided bespoke hydrogeology training for the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and is currently collaborating with laboratories in developing improved leachate testing methodologies for hydrocarbons.
